Trans-Siberian Orchestra...

ROCKS MY WORLD.

WARNING: If you have never heard, seen, or (God forbid) heard of TSO, please look at this before continuing to read:
This is the finale from this year's tour, which is what I saw last night. It's a side view of the stage, but you'll get the idea of just how phenomenal they are.

See? Like woah rocks my world. That was, hands down the best concert I've been to in my life. Better than Metallica, better than KISS, better than Aerosmith... I don't posses the vocabulary to describe fully the events that transpired during the BEST CONCERT EVER last night.
But I'll try...
We got there a little late and missed the first song, which was a medley, so I wasn't upset. The show started with a narrator, ala James Earl Jones, who not only had a gorgeous speaking voice, had the most incredible singing voice with about a 4 octave range. If that means nothing to you, it means he went from singing in a full bass (James Earl Jones) to singing like freaking Tina Turner wailing up in the stratosphere.
The band, you ask? Where do I begin. Fan-freaking-tastic. They are most certainly not a studio band. Holy moly. There were 2 amazing pianists who, at one point, did a dueling pianos bit that started with that creepy Frankenstein music and ended with Charlie Brown, which was hilarious. The lead guitarist played Flight of the Bumblebee. When I heard the opening notes to that, I thought "no way" and when he played it faster than I'd ever heard it played before, I'm pretty sure my jaw hit the head of the person in front of me. They, of course played all of the big hits, and some songs from their new album, which will be amazing I'm sure. They also had a small orchestra made up of local musicians, which I think is wicked neat. How incredible would that be, as a musician, to play with TSO on a glorious Sunday evening in December? It's wonderful that they give local musicians that experience.
The lights. Holy mother of surge protectors the lights were beyond anything my brain would have imagined. There were lights in every color; red, cyan, magenta, gold, white. There were even some lights that had red and white strips of color, like a candy cane. One light. Two colors. Amazing. Then, there was a gigantic, 2 story fiber drop that made the back of the set look like a sky full of twinkling stars. On the sides and the top of the stage were humongous LED screens that had images racing across them all night. Not to mention the lasers that were streaming all over the arena. The coolest part was when it started to "snow" and when the green lasers hit the snow, it looked like glitter. On top of all that madness, there were 10 individual lighting grids that were in constant motion above the stage, making waves and arches and tiled effects. The whole thing was so overwhelmingly badass that I was nearly speechless.
I can't wait to see it again next year!
For tonight, Curren and I are headed into DC to see the city aglow and marvel at the giant Christmas tree. I think there may be hot apple cider in my future...
Man, I love Christmas.

ps I don't know why my computer is rejecting my paragraph specifications and making my blogs just a lump of words. It kinda makes me grumpy.
